DoD: Hillary Clinton to Remain in Guantanamo Bay Indefinitely

Monday, January 10th, 2011

WASHINGTON —As the nation remains in shock and frenzied finger pointing following Saturday’s massacre in Tucson, AZ, the administration has taken the opportunity to quietly announce it will continue holding Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in Guantanamo Bay indefinitely.

Citing ongoing national security concerns, now compounded by Saturday’s attempted assassination and mass murder in Tucson, the Department of Defense said yesterday afternoon it will be keeping Hillary Clinton in an “intense state of isolation until such time as she is deemed no longer a national security threat.”

The nation has grown accustomed to the complete absence of the Secretary of State in the press following her imprisonment in Guantanamo Bay (aka “Gitmo”) immediately after President Obama assumed office. Clinton supporters and staff were hoping the former Democrat presidential candidate would be released from Gitmo sometime this year; however DoD officials insist the 63-year-old former first lady poses a distinct danger amidst their efforts to capture and isolate “enemy combatants.”

The department’s announcement has reignited a firestorm of protests from those who claim Clinton’s detention is a brazen Image attempt by the Obama administration to prevent any potential primary challenger emerging for the 2012 election.

Reports are Secretary of State Clinton is doing “as good as can be expected” as she continues to be held in solitary confinement on the controversial U.S. base-turned-prison in Cuba.

“This is an outrage. A pure outrage!” said former Hillary Clinton campaign manager Patti Solis Doyle to reporters Monday. “Hillary may have posed a national security threat at one point, but that time is long past…This is nothing more than brutal political posturing by the (Obama) administration. Anyone who can’t see that must be blind!”

Prominent pundits inside Washington are also wary of the DoD’s decision. But as the nation still reels from the Tucson massacre, those critics, like the announcement itself, are gaining little attention. Taking time out from desperately trying to connect AZ shooter, James Laughner to the Tea Party movement, Politico’s Ben Smith commented Monday, “I seriously doubt Hillary poses the ‘immense’ national security threat the (Department of Defense) claims she does. And given who the DoD ultimately takes its orders from, the motive behind the Secretary’s continued detention in Gitmo is beyond suspicious. Just the timing of the announcement alone is suspicious.”

Added Smith, “I wouldn’t be shocked if other prominent Democrats are declared national security risks and ‘isolated’ before 2012 gets underway.” Image

Although DoD officials remain adamant about the Hillary threat. Defense Secretary Robert Gates said via press release Monday the DoD will not risk Clinton being freed until at least 2013, further stoking the flames of conspiracy theorists who point out a post-2012 release date as further proof Hillary’s incarceration was politically motivated from the start.

Said Gates’ office, “With our troops and homeland personnel working tirelessly every day to protect this country, it would be very imprudent to release Secretary of State Clinton from custody at this time. The potential threat of this woman cannot be denied nor underestimated.”

“Never has a former political rival been held in prison so long,” wrote New York Times columnist David Brooks on his Facebook page Sunday evening. “Half of Democrat voters now wish Hillary had won instead of Obama; 1/3 of Obama voters say they regret voting for him; Hillary is still a strong, vibrant candidate with an abyss of experience. To keep her in (Gitmo) like this is shockingly transparent; a blatant, unabashed move by the White House. It’s clearer than Dolly Parton’s tits in a TSA scanner.”

Conspicuously silent since the government’s announcement has been former President Bill Clinton. Indeed, Clinton has appeared “distinctly apathetic” about his wife’s entire imprisonment, according to sources close to the 42nd president.

Reporters caught up to Clinton Monday at a New York luncheon benefiting Peyronie’s Disease awareness. When asked about the outcry of shock in reaction to his wife’s extended detention, Clinton responded, “Maybe twenty or so years ago I would’ve liked to have seen Dolly Parton in one of those TSA scanners. But at her age now, I just don’t know anymore. I can’t say. And that’s quite upsetting.”
